The route
Follow the towpath in either direction from the basin. Flat and surfaced, so distance is up to you.
Worth knowing
- The canal is a Site of Special Scientific Interest for aquatic plants, which complicates its restoration.
- The Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway runs from the town in season.
- Powis Castle is a short walk from the basin.

Background
The canal reached Welshpool in 1797 and carried lime, coal and grain until a breach in 1936 ended through traffic.
