The route
A boardwalk loop runs out into the bog from the car park, with the old railway track giving a longer level walk north and south. Flat and firm throughout.
Worth knowing
- The boardwalk is fully accessible and gets you into the middle of the bog without sinking into it.
- Red kites were saved from extinction in Britain in these valleys, and are now everywhere overhead.
- Winter brings hen harriers quartering the bog at dusk.

Background
The bog began forming in a glacial lake some twelve thousand years ago and the peat is up to nine metres deep.
