The route
The path follows the river upstream through the gorge and returns the same way. Steps and rock underfoot, with the water alongside throughout.
Worth knowing
- Laid out as a designed walk in the eighteenth century, which is why it flows so well.
- Slippery under wet leaves in autumn. Boots.
- Parking is genuinely limited; do not block the lane.
What you’ll see
Falls and pools in quick succession, mossy oak woodland, and dippers on the river.
Background
The walk was created around 1800 by Baron Richards of Caerynwch as a picturesque riverside promenade, and remains close to its original line.
