The route
Follow the Wye downstream from the abbey to the old station, crossing on the wireworks bridge and returning on the far bank. Mostly flat.
Worth knowing
- The old station is a café and picnic site with restored carriages, and free to visit.
- The wireworks bridge carries a footpath over the Wye and is a fine piece of ironwork.
- Easier than the Devil’s Pulpit climb and takes in more of the valley floor.

Background
The Wye Valley Railway ran from 1876 to 1964. The wireworks used water power from the Angidy valley from the sixteenth century.
