The route
Circle the park on grass tracks and estate paths, climbing gently for the view back to the castle on its rock. The gardens are a separate paid attraction.
Worth knowing
- Park entry is separate from the castle and gardens; check the National Trust arrangements before you go.
- Some of the oaks here are over five hundred years old and are nationally significant.
- Deer are wild animals. Keep dogs on leads and give them distance, especially in autumn.

Background
Powis has been continuously occupied since the thirteenth century, unusually for a Welsh border castle. The terraced gardens are late seventeenth century and among the finest in Britain.
