The route
Coast path west to Abereiddi, returning by the old tramway and field paths through Llanrhian. A proper circuit rather than a there-and-back.
Worth knowing
- The stone hoppers on the quay held crushed roadstone for loading and are the most striking industrial ruin on the coast.
- The Sloop Inn dates from 1743 and is the obvious end point.
- The white towers on the headland are navigation markers for the harbour entrance.

Background
Porthgain shipped slate, brick and crushed stone until 1931, when the works closed and the village emptied almost overnight.
