The route
Leave the village past the church and take field paths east towards the Hanter and Worsell ground, climbing onto open hillside before returning on lanes and tracks. The going is straightforward but there are a fair few stiles.
Worth knowing
- The church has a Norman font cut from a glacial boulder and a medieval organ case, one of the oldest in Britain. It is usually open.
- The Harp next door is a proper stone-floored pub, but opening hours are not generous. Check first.
- Hanter Hill is old, hard rock, which is why the sheep tracks are dry when everything else is claggy.

The church tower, hedgerows full of sloes in autumn, and a view across the Herefordshire plain.
Background
Old Radnor was the original settlement, superseded by New Radnor below it in the twelfth century. The church survived largely because the parish was too poor to modernise it.
