The route
From Pont Cyfyng, a track climbs past the old quarry and Llyn y Foel, then up the Daear Ddu ridge with easy scrambling to the summit. Descend the broad northern flank.
Worth knowing
- The Daear Ddu ridge is the best of it: easy scrambling on good rock with the lake below.
- Reckoned to show more Eryri summits from its top than any other mountain in the park.
- The quarry workings on the approach are unfenced.
What you’ll see
Llyn y Foel under the ridge, the quarry, and a summit view taking in most of Eryri.
Background
The slate quarry on the eastern flank worked in the nineteenth century and its ruins and inclines are still clear.
