Where it is

The circle shows the general area, not the exact start. Use the directions link below to get to the car park itself. Contours and paths shown are OpenTopoMap, drawn from OpenStreetMap data.

The route

Climb from the valley onto the ridge and follow it west over Moel y Gamelin and Moel Morfydd, returning by tracks on the northern side.

Worth knowing

  • The ridge is open access moorland; there are paths but they come and go.
  • Heather across the whole ridge in August.
  • A large moorland fire in 2018 changed the vegetation and the regrowth is still patchy.

What you’ll see

Heather moor, the Dee valley, the Berwyn to the south and the Clwydians north.

Background

The moor was managed for grouse and the shooting butts are still visible along the ridge.
