The route
From the car park, walk down to Marloes Sands and along the coast path round the Deer Park to Martin’s Haven, returning by the northern coast and lanes.
Worth knowing
- Skomer and Skokholm lie offshore. Boats run from Martin’s Haven and must be booked well ahead in puffin season.
- The Deer Park never held deer. The wall was built for a park that was never stocked.
- Marloes Sands is best at low tide, when the rock strata across the beach are exposed.

Background
Skomer holds one of the largest Manx shearwater colonies in the world, several hundred thousand pairs, which come ashore only at night.
