The route

The perimeter path runs right round the water from the visitor centre. Firm surface for much of it, rougher on the far side.

Worth knowing

  • The first stretch from the centre is surfaced and suitable for pushchairs; the far side is rougher.
  • Good in poor weather when the Preselis are in cloud.
  • The reservoir is stocked and popular with anglers; keep dogs off the banks.

Open water, mixed woodland, wildfowl, and the Preseli ridge to the north.

Background

The reservoir was completed in 1972 to supply Pembrokeshire, flooding a valley of small farms.
