The route
Climb to the castle, follow the coast path round the point, and return along the shore or the lanes. Undulating.
Worth knowing
- The castle is free, unstaffed and open all year, which is worth knowing.
- St Anthony’s Well below the castle is a wishing well with a long tradition.
- The estuary sands are extensive but the channels fill quickly.

The castle, the Tywi and Taf estuaries meeting, and Laugharne across the water.
Background
An Iron Age promontory fort occupied the headland long before the Normans built the castle in the twelfth century.
