The route
Take field paths from the village down to the canal, follow the towpath, then return on lanes and paths through the farmland. Almost no climbing.
Worth knowing
- The village pub is well regarded and busy at weekends. Book if you want lunch.
- The canal here is at its prettiest, with the Bannau filling the view south.
- Good winter option when the tops are out of the question.

Background
Llanfrynach’s church was heavily rebuilt in the nineteenth century but the settlement is much older, sitting on the good farmland of the Usk valley floor.
