The route
Waymarked tracks loop through the forest from the car park, with a hide overlooking the pool. Flat and firm throughout.
Worth knowing
- Red squirrels are most active early morning and late afternoon; the feeders near the car park are the best bet.
- Ravens roost in the forest in large numbers in winter, sometimes several hundred birds.
- Flat and sheltered, a good option when the coast is unpleasant.

Background
The forest was planted from 1947 to stabilise the dunes, which had been blowing inland and burying farmland for centuries.
