The route
Walk the bay edge and coast path towards Llanddona, returning inland by field paths. The sand is only safe near the shore.
Worth knowing
- The bay drains almost completely at low tide and fills fast. Do not walk out into the middle.
- The Ship Inn and the Boathouse are both on the shore and are the reason many people come.
- Oystercatchers and curlew in numbers on the falling tide.

Red Wharf Bay was a shipbuilding and trading beach, with vessels built on the sand and floated off on the tide.
