The route
The Way climbs from the Banwy valley into Dyfnant Forest and crosses to the lake at Llanwddyn. Forest tracks for much of it.
Worth knowing
- Dyfnant is a large forest and the waymarking matters; do not assume you can navigate by eye.
- The Ann Griffiths Walk branches off here, following the hymn writer’s route to chapel.
- Lake Vyrnwy has a hotel, café and RSPB centre at the far end.
What you’ll see
Dyfnant Forest, open hill above it, and the lake opening out at the end.
Background
Ann Griffiths of Dolwar Fach walked these hills to chapel and composed hymns still sung across Wales, dying at twenty-nine in 1805.
