The route
A track leads from the road across the moor to the lake, which can be circled. same ground on the way back. Level walking on rough ground.
Worth knowing
- Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust reserve; heather moorland with ground-nesting birds from March to July.
- The lake is said to be bottomless, which it is not, but it is very dark.
- Combine with Dylife gorge a few miles along the same mountain road.

Background
The mountain road past here linked the lead mines at Dylife to Machynlleth and was a drovers’ route before that.
