The route
A track follows the stream up the valley and climb to the hillfort, returning through the woods. Steep in places.
Worth knowing
- The hillfort was excavated in the 1950s and produced imported Mediterranean pottery, evidence of post-Roman trade.
- Bluebells and wild garlic through the valley in spring.
- Easily reached by train from Cardiff, which is unusual for a woodland walk.

Background
Dinas Powys hillfort was occupied in the fifth and sixth centuries and its finds showed that Wales was still trading with the Mediterranean after Rome left.
