Where it is

The circle shows the general area, not the exact start. Use the directions link below to get to the car park itself. Contours and paths shown are OpenTopoMap, drawn from OpenStreetMap data.

The route

A boardwalk runs out into the fen from the road with a viewing platform. Flat and accessible, and short.

Worth knowing

  • The Anglesey Fens are internationally important and among the best alkaline fens in Britain.
  • Orchids including marsh helleborine and fly orchid from June.
  • The boardwalk is the only sensible way across; the fen itself is genuinely wet.

What you’ll see

Fen vegetation, orchids in summer, dragonflies, and marsh harrier overhead.

Background

The fens formed in hollows in the limestone after the last glaciation and have accumulated peat ever since.
