The route
One climb, and it comes at the start. Paths climb away from the village onto the hillsides on either side of the valley, returning by lanes. Steady climbing with good views throughout.
Worth knowing
- The valley was saved from being flooded as a reservoir in 1923 after a national campaign.
- The old tramway from the slate quarries runs along the valley floor and is walkable in places.
- Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog at the head of the valley has two good pubs.

Background
A proposal to dam the valley for Warrington’s water was defeated in Parliament in 1923, an early victory for landscape protection.
