The route
The coast path runs north from Gwbert along the cliffs opposite the island. Out and back, with steady undulation.
Worth knowing
- Cardigan Island has no public access. The view from the mainland cliffs is the way to see it.
- Grey seals pup in the coves below the path in autumn; stay on the clifftop and do not disturb them.
- The Welsh Wildlife Centre across the estuary makes a good pairing.

Background
Cardigan Island was cleared of rats in 1968 and Manx shearwaters have since begun to recolonise it.
