The route
A track runs along the southern shore of both lakes from the village towards Plas y Brenin and beyond. Level and easy, with the view improving as you go.
Worth knowing
- The classic view is from the eastern end looking west; still water in the early morning is when it works.
- Plas y Brenin is the national outdoor centre and its café is open to the public.
- The track continues to Dyffryn Mymbyr and can be extended a long way.

Background
Dyffryn Mymbyr farm above the lakes was the subject of Thomas Firbank’s book I Bought a Mountain, a bestseller in 1940.
