The route
Follow the coastal path west from the harbour towards Pembrey. Flat and surfaced throughout.
Worth knowing
- Earhart landed here in 1928 as the first woman to cross the Atlantic by air, though she was a passenger.
- Part of the Millennium Coastal Park, so the surfacing is good and continuous.
- The estuary holds large numbers of waders in winter.
What you’ll see
The harbour and lighthouse, the Loughor estuary, Gower opposite, and waders on the mud.
Background
Burry Port shipped coal and smelted copper and lead. The harbour is now a marina and the industry has gone entirely.
