The route
Follow the made path downstream along the river from the car park, with the water on one side and the park on the other, and return the same way. Extend along the bank towards the bridge if you want a little more.
Worth knowing
- One of the few genuinely level riverside walks in the county, and the surface holds up in winter.
- The Royal Welsh Showground is across the river; during show week in July the town is transformed and parking is impossible.
- Dippers work the shallows below the bridge most mornings.

Background
The Groe has been common ground for Builth for centuries and still hosts fairs and events. The town’s castle earthworks sit above, stripped of stone long ago.
