The route
Take the coast path south over the headland to Little Haven, go back the way you came or along the beach at low water. Steep steps at both ends.
Worth knowing
- The beach route between the two is only possible for a couple of hours either side of low tide.
- Little Haven is the prettier of the two and has the better pubs.
- Both beaches are safe for swimming and get busy in August.
What you’ll see
Two sandy bays, the headland between, and St Brides Bay opening west.
Background
Both villages were fishing and coal-shipping settlements; small anthracite pits worked right down to the shore here into the nineteenth century.
