The route
Follow the Rhiw from the village to where the Montgomery Canal crosses it on an aqueduct, join the towpath for a stretch, then return by field paths. Level and easy.
Worth knowing
- The aqueduct carrying the canal over the river is a fine piece of engineering and easy to miss from below.
- The village is black-and-white timber framed and genuinely picturesque rather than merely tidy.
- The Andrew Logan Museum of Sculpture in the village is unexpected and worth an hour.

Background
The Montgomery Canal opened through here around 1797. The aqueduct was rebuilt in the 1880s after the original failed.
