The route
Follow the Glaslyn upstream from the village to Llyn Dinas, returning by the northern bank or the old copper mine track. Level and well used.
Worth knowing
- Gelert’s grave was invented by a hotel keeper in the 1790s to draw visitors. It worked and is still working.
- Llyn Dinas is a good swimming lake in summer, though cold.
- Sygun copper mine on the north side is open to visitors.

Background
Copper was mined at Sygun from Roman times and intensively in the nineteenth century. The mine closed in 1903 and reopened as a visitor attraction.
