The route
Follow the shore path from the pier in either direction. Flat and easy, with the mountains opposite throughout.

- The old gaol and courthouse in the town are both open and genuinely grim.
- The strait’s tidal currents are ferocious; the Swellies further west are notorious.

Background
Beaumaris was begun in 1295 and never finished. The name comes from the Norman French for fair marsh, which is what the site was.
