The route
Follow the coast path west from the bay along the shore and cliffs, back the same way. Shingle and grass underfoot.
Worth knowing
- The saltmarsh behind the shingle bar is unusual on this coast and holds waders.
- The Bristol Channel has the second highest tidal range in the world and the water moves fast here.
- The disused power station dominates the view east; the walking is better westward.

Background
Aberthaw was a small port shipping limestone and lime, and the lias limestone here was burned for a cement that sets under water.
