The route
Climb steeply from the village onto the terraces, work along beneath the crags, then return by the field paths lower down. The going is rough underfoot and the edges are genuine drops.
Worth knowing
- Keep well back from the lip of the terraces. There are no barriers and the rock is loose in places.
- Llywelyn’s Cave is signed but is a low shelter rather than a cavern. The interest is historical, not spectacular.
- The church below has a fine screen and is usually open.

Background
Llywelyn ap Gruffudd is said to have sheltered near here in December 1282, days before he was killed at Cilmeri a few miles away. The tradition is old, though the details are impossible to verify.
